Agroforestry: Combining trees and crops

Agroforestry is a land management system that combines the cultivation of trees and shrubs with crops or livestock on the same piece of land. The idea is to create amore sustainable and productive system by integrating different types of plants and animals in the way that benefits the environment, improves biodiversity, and enhances the economic viability of farming.

Agroforestry is composed of trees and shrubs, crops, and  livestock ( if needed).

Examples of agroforestry

* Windbreaks - Trees and shrubs planted in rows across the field to protect crops from strong wind damage, reduce soil erosion etc.

* Forest farming - Involves growing crops under the canopy of an existing forest. This can include shade-loving plants such as mushrooms, herbs or certain fruits.
